The SLV Yetis 14U put together a strong two game showing, earning a hard fought tie in the opener before closing the day with a seven goal win over the Pueblo Bulls. Across both games, the Yetis set the pace, dictated possession, and consistently applied pressure in all three zones.
In the first matchup, the Yetis answered early and often. After Pueblo opened the scoring, the Yetis responded with two first period goals to take control of the game flow. Nigel Bahr struck off a setup from Trey Archuleta, followed by a finish from Finnegan Wermes with Charli Walker providing the assist. Pueblo pushed back in the second, but the Yetis stayed composed and answered again when Landon Artaechevarria scored with help from Creedence Dick. Despite heavy pressure and extended offensive zone time, the game ended in a 3 to 3 tie after a scoreless third period.
That control became even more evident in the second game. The teams traded goals early, with Finnegan Wermes scoring twice in the first period to keep the Yetis level. In the second, Eliott Mackey took over offensively, scoring twice to match Pueblo goal for goal. Heading into the third period tied, the Yetis elevated their execution and broke the game open.
Mackey scored on the power play early in the third, then followed with the game winning goal off an assist from Artaechevarria. He completed the stretch with another unassisted finish as the Yetis pulled away. Pueblo added one late goal, but the outcome was no longer in doubt as the Yetis closed out a 7 to 5 win.
Across both games, the numbers told the same story. The Yetis outshot Pueblo 78 to 29, sustained offensive pressure, and limited high danger chances. Zaine Eskew anchored the net in both games, providing steady goaltending while the team played in front of him with structure and discipline.
The weekend reflected growth in execution and confidence. The Yetis stayed patient, responded when challenged, and finished strong, turning consistent effort into results that showed up on both the scoreboard and the stat sheet.
